It is with very much sadness and regret, but nevertheless the duty of Surrey Radio Control Club to report the passing of Peter Shaw, a much valued member of the club for many, many years who was also a serving member of the Club Committee.
Peter was an accomplished flyer as well as a very well respected, knowledgeable, experienced and active modeller, equally content with creating both RC scale aeroplanes and boats, with ease and determination, honed from his background in engineering.
Originally from Oldham, he eventually made his home in Horsham, West Sussex with his delightful wife, Hilary and raised four children, of whom, he was immensely proud.
Very much outgoing and affable, with an enthusiasm that rubbed off on his contemporaries, Peter had made many friends and acquaintances over the years due to his attendance at many events and was also a member of The Croydon Airport Model Flying Club, becoming a Committee member there and instrumental in organising and promoting the model meets and get togethers associated with that Club.
However, in recent years Pete was content to commit his many modelling activities within the orbit of Surrey Radio Control Club, inevitably emerging as a real stalwart and thus the club was better off for it, always ready to volunteer his expertise where required.
He had also developed a belated talent for single-handedly organising the club barbecue, by collating and obtaining all of the ingredients required, then taking great pride in doing all of the cooking. As a result, these occasions proved to be popular and successful, very much enjoyed by all who attended.
One would not need to know Peter long before realising that he had a real presence and personality within the fraternity and consequently, it was well worth keeping his counsel, enjoying his company, his experience and benefiting from his generosity.
A no-nonsense gentleman from the north west with a true heart of gold, he will be greatly missed by the numerous people that had the pleasure of knowing him.
