Yesterday was a full day of practice, hence no report.  After working hard all day, we met up with the GBR F3C team in the evening for dinner.  It was great to have a chance to catch up and reflect on the WChs so far.  We all agreed that those countries who had opted not to compete in these WChs because they didn’t like the idea of going to Romania, were missing out – everyone has been so welcoming and friendly, you really couldn’t ask for more.

This morning saw us back in full competition mode as the first two Final rounds were flown. First up was Set Manoeuvres.  Despite putting in a blistering round, Duncan was unfortunately beaten by Luca.  Dave and Adam came in 3rd and 4th respectively but were both disappointed with their scores – it looks like this will be their throwaway round.

Later in the afternoon we had the Freestyle round. Everyone was suffering in the heat (approx. 34 degrees C). Again Luca and Duncan were the two top pilots, both flying incredible flights.  For those of us watching it was impossible to predict who had come out on top – in the end it was Luca, by just 6 points, putting an end to Duncan’s chances of winning the WChs.  But as we told him, Silver is not to be sneezed at and an incredible achievement.

The talented young Austrian pilot, Gabriel Grunder (aged 13), came third with 426 points.  There was only 2 points separating Adam and Dave (417 v 415) so in this round Adam came 4th and Dave 5th.  Third and Fourth places are still dependant on the final round (Flight to Music) which will start at 11am tomorrow morning so Dave and Adam still have everything to fly for.  The only downside, it’s going to be even hotter tomorrow – 37 degrees C is forecast!  As for the team, we are guaranteed gold medals so we’re well pleased with that.
